From
being the prophecy's chosen one to being the most powerful Sith lord,
Anakin Skywalker was discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn when their ship was
damaged in Tatooine. Anakin was a young human boy that was able to
compete on pod-racing, with a boy of his age, it required a huge
concentration of force, Qui-Gon took advantage of that unique ability
to win a pod race that would provide parts for the ship to be able to
work again and free Anakin from being a slave in Watto's shop. When
Anakin won the pod-race, Qui-Gon got the bargain he offered to Watto
and Anakin was released. Anakin was to be trained under Qui-Gon to
become a jedi. As soon as Qui-Gon and company arrived back into the
council, Qui-Gon asked master Yoda to train Anakin to be Qui-Gon's
Apprentice. Yoda sense that Anakin did have the power to be the
prophecy's chosen one but Yoda was also sensing something else lying
within. Later on, Qui-Gon was slain by Darth Maul and Anakin was to
become Obi-Wan Kenobi's apprentice. During the third episode of the
saga, Anakin faces events that are parts of the hero's journey.
Anakin and his master, Obi-Wan was on a rescue attempt to save Chancellor Palpatine because he was
taken by the forces of Count Dooku. It was his call to action but
during this rescue attempt, he faces another part of a hero's
journey, a trial. When Count Dooku and Anakin were fighting in the
ship in front of Chancellor Palpatine, Count was defeated but it did
not end there because the Chancellor ordered Anakin to fully slay
Count Dooku even after Anakin already cut off his hands. Anakin doubted the Chancellor's command but was under pressure even when he knew that it wasn't the Jedi way to do so. When Anakin, Obi-Wan and the Chancellor returned back to the republic, Anakin was keeping a secret relationship with Senator Padme. They were secretly married and Padme was pregnant.
With Padme being pregnant, this meant that Anakin was going to be a father, thus crossing another path on the hero's journey which was crossing the threshold. During this time, Anakin experienced dreams about Padme dying during birth and this bothered very much since he dreamt of his mother dying which actually happened afterwards. Chancellor Palpatine knew about Padme's condition and was convincing Anakin to side with the Dark force- Sith, in order to save his beloved Padme and the baby. Later on, Chancellor Palpatine was to be arrested for being a sith lord by Mace Windu. Anakin faced another trial where Anakin ended up slaying Mace Windu and then siding with the dark side. When the Jedi's were being slain, Obi-Wan finds out that Anakin joins the dark side and was set on a mission to stop Anakin.
Padme left to Mustafar to meet Anakin and was questioned if Anakin actually turned to the dark side of the force, Obi-Wan appeared and began the final battle, battle with the father or in this case, battle with the mentor. Obi-Wan seeks to redeem his apprentice and friend, however, Anakin was resolved to keep his power and loyalty to the dark side. The two battle and during the battle, Anakin was crippled, burned, and was left for dead with his body eaten by flames. Anakin was raged and was filled with hatred towards Obi-Wan and the Jedi order. Leading to his return/rebirth, he became a sith lord later named Darth Vader, whom seeked to rule the galaxy with force and fear.
In conclusion, Anakin walked to the path of the hero's journey but side tracked to evil. He was trained to be a great warrior for good but due to pressure, he was consumed into darkness which lead him to be a sith lord hunting the Jedi while ruling the galaxy. Although he did walk to the wrong path of the hero's journey, Anakin redeemed himself by slaying Palpatine to save his own son, Luke Skywalker.
